International Faculty Travel Grant
Applications are invited for international travel grants from the UST International Education Center (IEC). The number and amount of awards will be made based on the number and quality of applications received as well as on available funding. The IEC will award grants up to $1,000 with the understanding that a matching amount will be awarded by the faculty member’s respective dean (up to $2,000 total).Objective
The purpose of this grant is to help defray the cost of international travel intended to help UST faculty internationalize their teaching and research. Proposals must focus on:- Internationalizing the UST Classroom: internationalize an existing course (or courses) or develop a new course with an international focus.
- Developing an International Program: develop a new course or program to be taught outside the United States.
Eligibility
- All full-time UST clinical, tenured, or tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply.
- Faculty members who have received a travel award in the preceding fiscal year may not apply for an award during the current fiscal year.
- Proposals must be submitted by the application deadline (November 21, 2012) to be considered.
- Travel must be completed during the current (2013) budgetary year—concluding June 30, 2013.
Procedures
A completed grant proposal consists of the following:

A proposal narrative (3 pages maximum) that addresses each of the following:
- Overview (brief statement that describes what you intend to accomplish);
- Site (where you plan to travel and your rationale for going there);
- Outcome (how your proposed travel will impact your teaching and/or research and student learning);
- Experience (what previous experience, if any, you have in the location/s you plan to visit); and
- Budget (list of estimated expenses, plus any other funding you will use to support your travel).1
- A copy of your curriculum vitae.
- A letter of support from your department chair and dean (download form).
Selection Criteria
- Completed applications will be reviewed and awarded by the director of the International Education Center in conjunction with respective chairs and deans and in consultation with the executive vice president and chief academic officer. Award notifications will be made no later than Friday, November 30, 2012.
- Selection will be made on the strength of the proposal and its anticipated outcomes, the efficacy and likelihood of success of the project, and the priorities of the respective school or college.
- Preference will be given to proposals from faculty who have not had extensive international experience and to faculty who have not previously received grants from the International Education Center.
- Grants are not available for travel to conferences.
Post-Grant Reporting
No later than one semester after completing their travel, awardees agree to submit a written report to the Director of the International Education Center. The report should discuss the travel experience as well as plans for meeting the outcomes listed in the application proposal.1Applicants may need to fund part of their travel themselves or secure other campus or off-campus funding.
