Study Abroad Trends

2011-2012 Off-Campus Program Participation Trends (International and Domestic)

academiclevel gender
  • The study abroad participation breakdown by academic level has generally remained consistent with national averages for the past several years.
  • While female students continue to represent the higher proportion of study abroad participation overall, the number of male participants continues to be higher than the national average. This is likely attributed to strong male enrollment in the Catholic Studies Semester Program as well as short-term summer graduate programs.
Total Study Abroad Participation Grad vs. UG
  • Undergraduate student participation continues to be strongest in January short-term programs.
  • Graduate student participation in study abroad is primarily concentrated in short-term duration programs, particularly January, Spring, and Summer terms.

Areas of Study

For both graduate and undergraduate students, Business Administration (and its concentrations) continues as the most common major for UST study abroad participants.

Popular Destinations
  • Italy and the UK continue to represent the most popular locations for international off-campus program participation, as has been consistent with the national average for several years.
  • Italy and the UK also represent the highest concentration of semester program participation, likely attributed to the UST Catholic Studies Program as well as the UST London Business Semester.
  • Germany was among the most popular destinations with strong participation in two undergraduate January Term programs.
